Greetings all,
We rowers are all at the mercy of weather when we are on the water. It is important to have key information BEFORE we go out. What the predicted wind speed is? What is the river height at the Little Falls gauge? What is the chance of lightning? This kind of data is crucial for member safety.
That river gauge is the responsibility of the U.S. Geological Survey. Its scientists monitor above-ground ecosystems, (i.e., among other things, the Potomac River.) NOAA meteorologists make predictions for us based on upcoming weather and climate conditions.
These organizations are facing random cuts which will adversely affect NOAA's and USGS's ability to keep us safe.
If this is a concern to you, please mark Saturday, April 5th on your calendar. Please support the scientists and federal workers gathering that day in Washington, DC. A quick Google search will show a myriad of groups planning to express their concerns. Please pick a group that appeals to you, and show up.
Row like a Champion PBC!
Hank
