Summer Wrap and Fall beginings
Author Last Post

HI Everyone,

Our U119 and U23's wrapped up their summer with an outstanding showing at Canadian Henley. We took a total of 32 athelets - 20 U19's and 12 U23's. We entered 31 events and 28 advanced out of heats to semi's (most of these events are 50+ entries so 2 advance from heats and 2 advance from semi's). and of course there is no seeding...but, hey, it's better than back in the day when it was 1 advance from heat to final!

With that said we had 11 boats in the finals - that is amazing1 Of those 11 we had 6 podium showings. In the U19 boys 2x (which started with 77, we had two boats in the finals!)

PBC swept the boys sculling events

Gold - M U19 1x - Tony Madigan

Gold - M U19 2x - Tony and Tarek Kalifa (our trials boat)

Gold - M u 19 4x - Tony, Daniel Reilly, Hunter Sweeny and Webb Whitfiled

Other podium finishes

W U23 1x - 2nd, Charlotte Lightfoot

W U23 2x - 3rd - Charlotte and Annabell Harbold

M U17 2x - 3rd - Miles Narva and Oliver Kiker

A crazy true story from CanLey - we had two women's U23 4x's in the same heat - one broke an oar doing a practice start on the way to the start line - they rowed back got an oar but missed thier race. The other boat - started and caught a massive crab - under the boat, gotta open the oar lock to get out sort of crab - at least 45 sec. They got the oar back in sprinted 1250 meters and were only 3 sec from qualifying their boat! Ah well, our equipment giving us feedback - it wasn't meant to be.

The fall program kicks off Sept 24 with our eye on the HOCR - the kids practice in the eveing from 5 to 7:30, with launch time about 5:30pm - pls be patient between 5;30 and 5:45 :-)
